Chery has officially launched the all-new Fengyun T9L, a large five-seat SUV, with an official guide price range of RMB 129,900 to 186,900. A limited price is also offered from RMB 125,900 to 182,900. The T9L features the Falcon 700+ intelligent driver assistance system, Horizon Journey 6P chip, and the Kunpeng super-efficient plug-in hybrid (CDM) powertrain.

Exterior: Solid, refined design

The Fengyun T9L adopts Chery’s latest Fengyun series design language. Up front, a large borderless grille with matrix chrome inserts sits alongside sharp LED matrix headlights, creating a wide, planted look. Vertical air intakes on the bumper add sportiness. The side profile features clean, strong lines with hidden door handles and large multi-spoke wheels. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar enhances nighttime visibility, complemented by dual exhaust trims.

Interior: Spacious five-seat cabin with smart upgrades

As a “large five-seat” SUV, the T9L’s interior space is a key selling point. With a wheelbase expected to exceed 2.8 metres, rear legroom and headroom are generous. The panoramic sunroof adds an airy feel. Premium leather seats include electric adjustment, ventilation and heating for the front row. A large floating touchscreen runs Chery’s latest connected system with voice control, online navigation and OTA updates. Other features include a full digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, ambient lighting and rear air vents.

Driver assistance: Falcon 700+ with Journey 6P chip

The T9L is equipped with the Falcon 700+ intelligent driver assistance system, powered by the Horizon Journey 6P chip. This highcomputing, lowlatency processor enables highway assist, auto parking, traffic jam assist, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. Multiple mmWave radars, ultrasonic sensors and HD cameras provide 360degree perception. The system delivers L2+ level assistance, reducing fatigue and improving safety.

Powertrain: Kunpeng CDM plug-in hybrid

The T9L features Chery’s inhouse Kunpeng superefficient plugin hybrid (CDM) system, comprising a dedicated hybrid engine, electric motor and DHT gearbox. Exact displacement and power figures are yet to be released, but based on Chery’s existing technology, combined system output is expected to exceed 200 kW with over 400 Nm of torque. Pure electric range is estimated at 100–150 km (CLTC), with total range exceeding 1,200 km. In lowbattery mode, fuel consumption is expected below 5L/100km – impressive for a midsize SUV.

Market positioning and competition

Key rivals include the BYD Song Plus DMi, Haval Xiaolong MAX and Geely Galaxy L7. The tradein price starting at RMB 125,900 undercuts most competitors, offering strong value. The spacious fiveseat layout and Falcon 700+ system further boost appeal. Target customers are families seeking low running costs, smart features and generous space, with a budget around RMB 150,000. Although not officially available in Hong Kong, the T9L is attractive for frequent mainland travellers or Greater Bay Area residents.

Conclusion: A strong contender in hybrid SUVs

In summary, the Chery Fengyun T9L impresses with its design, space, driver assistance and hybrid technology. The Kunpeng CDM system delivers low fuel consumption and long range, while the Falcon 700+ provides L2+ assistance. The aggressive pricing makes it a formidable challenger in the segment. If realworld performance and reliability meet expectations, the T9L could become a sales driver for Chery. For buyers considering a midsize plugin hybrid SUV, this model deserves serious attention.
