GAC Tech Day 2026: New Hybrid Systems, Smart Cockpit, and Hong Kong's "Painless" EV Transition

On April 12, GAC Group will hold its 2026 Technology Day, unveiling a new generation of all-terrain hybrid technology, a cloud-edge integrated smart cockpit, an advanced E/E architecture, and joint achievements in automotive-grade chips. For Hong Kong drivers—facing the end of the "One-for-One" EV tax scheme, rising EV prices, and insufficient charging infrastructure—GAC's hybrid solutions could be a game-changer.

Plug-in Hybrid: 3L/100km for a 2-Ton SUV

GAC's new plug-in hybrid technology achieves 3L/100km fuel consumption for a 2-ton large SUV, along with 10,000 Nm of wheel torque and 4-second 0-100km/h acceleration. For Hong Kong users with home charging, this means near-zero daily fuel costs and effortless highway merging. Without charging, fuel cost is still only about HKD 0.5/km.

HEV+ "Oil-Electric Intelligence Parity"

For those without home charging, GAC's new full hybrid (HEV+) brings features once exclusive to EVs: sentry mode, seamless OTA updates, long-duration stationary AC power, and EV-like quietness. Hong Kong drivers can now enjoy smart car experiences without changing their refueling habits.

Cloud-Edge Smart Cockpit

The new cockpit system understands complex scene-based commands, offers proactive safety through multimodal perception, and recognizes driver emotions—adjusting cabin ambiance accordingly. It transforms the car from a tool to a companion.

New E/E Architecture and Local Chips

GAC's advanced E/E architecture enables continuous vehicle evolution via OTA. Jointly developed domestic automotive-grade chips reduce supply chain risks and costs.

Hong Kong Perspective

GAC has established a strong presence in Hong Kong, with nearly 2,000 sales in March 2026. Introducing RHD versions of these new hybrid models would offer Hong Kong families a practical choice: plug-in hybrids for those with home charging, and HEV+ for those without—both delivering smart features and low running costs.

Personal Opinion

GAC's "technology for all" approach directly addresses Hong Kong's unique challenges. The April 12 Tech Day is a date worth watching for local buyers seeking a seamless, affordable, and intelligent mobility solution. When domestic brands solve real pain points, the market rules change. GAC's hybrid innovations could be the answer many Hong Kong families have been waiting for. The era of "painless" electrification may be closer than we think. With sentry mode, OTA, and 4-second acceleration in an affordable hybrid, Hong Kong drivers no longer have to choose between convenience and intelligence.
