SAIC Roewe has announced that the all-new Roewe i6 will open pre-sales on April 13, with a full launch in April. The new model features the brand's latest design language, a 15.6-inch 2.5K central screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, an electronic column shifter, and a 1.5L all-aluminum engine paired with a CVT transmission, achieving fuel consumption as low as 5.96L/100km.

Design and Dimensions

The new i6 adopts a vertical grille and a full-width light bar. It measures 4,767mm in length, 1,828mm in width, and 1,498mm in height, with a 2,755mm wheelbase. The rear features a full-width taillight and a subtle ducktail spoiler.

Interior and Technology

The "Orange" interior theme uses high-quality soft materials covering 9.86 sqm. The 15.6-inch 2.5K central screen is powered by a Snapdragon 8155 chip for smooth operation. An electronic column shifter and wireless phone charging are also included.

Powertrain

The 1.5L all-aluminum engine with direct injection produces 95kW and 158Nm, paired with a CVT. Combined fuel consumption is 5.96L/100km.

Hong Kong Perspective

Following the end of Hong Kong's "One-for-One" EV tax concession scheme, EV prices have risen, making fuel-efficient petrol cars more attractive for budget-conscious buyers. The Roewe i6's competitive pricing (estimated RMB 80,000-120,000 in mainland China) would translate to approximately HKD 150,000-200,000 in Hong Kong after taxes and fees. This positions it against the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sylphy. Its advantages include a larger screen, more modern design, and a smooth CVT. The main challenges are brand recognition and the lack of an established dealer network in Hong Kong.

Personal Opinion

The Roewe i6 offers exceptional value for an entry-level petrol sedan. Its combination of a 15.6-inch screen, 8155 chip, and efficient powertrain makes it a strong contender in the budget segment. For Hong Kong buyers seeking an affordable, well-equipped, and fuel-efficient car, the Roewe i6 is worth watching. Its pre-sale launch on April 13 is a key date. If introduced in RHD form, it could provide a fresh alternative to traditional Japanese rivals.
