On March 25, Chery Fengyun T9L officially opened pre-sales, with prices ranging from RMB 139,900 to RMB 169,900. This large five-seat SUV features the Falcon 700+ intelligent driving system, Horizon Robotics Journey 6P chip, LiDAR, a -6°C to 50°C refrigerator, and a 17.3-inch 2.5K rear-seat screen. For Hong Kong users, the arrival of the Fengyun T9L raises a pertinent question: With an entry price of RMB 139,900, a 2,920mm wheelbase, 5-second acceleration, and LiDAR-based ADAS, could it become a new option for Hong Kong families?

Size and Space: Large Five-Seat Layout with a 2,920mm Wheelbase

The Fengyun T9L measures 4,870mm in length, 1,930mm in width, and 1,710mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920mm. This places it in the large SUV category, offering spacious accommodation for five occupants. The rear legroom is 1,037mm, with a flat floor for enhanced passenger comfort. Trunk capacity is expected to exceed 500 liters, expanding to over 1,500 liters with the rear seats folded.

Intelligent Driving: Falcon 700+ System + LiDAR

A key highlight is the Falcon 700+ intelligent driving system powered by the Horizon Robotics Journey 6P chip. The LiDAR unit, rare in this price segment, indicates advanced ADAS capabilities. The system is expected to support highway NOA, urban NCA, and all-scenario smart parking. For Hong Kong users, while local regulations currently restrict full functionality, hardware pre-installation offers future-proofing.

Powertrain and Range: 5-Second Acceleration + 45.79% Thermal Efficiency

The Fengyun T9L features Chery's Kunpeng Super Hybrid CDM system, with an engine thermal efficiency of 45.79%, paired with a DHT260 transmission. Total system output is 260 kW and 330 Nm of torque. All-wheel drive is available, offering 0-100 km/h acceleration in the 5-second range and a top speed of 240 km/h. Combined range is expected to exceed 1,200 km.

Interior: Zero-Gravity Seats, Refrigerator, 23-Speaker Audio

The interior is generously equipped. Front zero-gravity seats offer ventilation, heating, and massage functions. Rear passengers have access to a 17.3-inch 2.5K screen and a 23-speaker premium sound system. A refrigerator (-6°C to 50°C) adds practicality for family trips.

Pricing Strategy: Value Proposition from RMB 139,900

The RMB 139,900 entry price is highly competitive. It undercuts the BYD Song Plus DM-i while offering more space and advanced features, and is significantly cheaper than comparable Japanese SUVs like the Honda CR-V. The combination of a large wheelbase, LiDAR, strong performance, and premium features presents a compelling value package.

Hong Kong Perspective: Three Hurdles for RHD Introduction

RHD Development Cost: Converting a left-hand-drive platform for Hong Kong's smaller RHD market involves significant expense.

Brand Recognition: Chery's brand awareness in Hong Kong currently lags behind established players like BYD or Tesla. However, its growing presence in other RHD markets like the UK could help.

Charging Compatibility: As a PHEV, the Fengyun T9L requires compatible charging. Hong Kong's public charging network, while developing, currently has limited high-power options, though slower charging may suffice for daily needs.

Personal Opinion: The Practicality of a Large Five-Seat SUV

The Fengyun T9L reflects a "practical" approach to the SUV market. While seven-seat SUVs are popular, the third row is often underutilized. By focusing on a large five-seat layout, the T9L maximizes space for the occupants who use it most. The combination of generous space, advanced features, strong performance, and a competitive price makes it an intriguing option. For Hong Kong buyers, the T9L represents potential value. Its eventual arrival in Hong Kong depends on RHD development, but it demonstrates the compelling value proposition emerging from Chinese automakers. The pre-sale launch is a date worth watching for those seeking a practical, well-equipped family SUV.
