On March 23, at Huawei's Spring All-Scenario New Product Launch, the refreshed Stelato S9 and S9T officially launched, starting at RMB 319,800. The new models come standard with the next-generation 896-line dual-optical path image-grade LiDAR. The S9 adds a "Moonlit White" exterior color, while the S9T introduces a "Starburst Pink" option. The BEV version achieves over 800km range, while the EREV version offers over 1,300km CLTC combined range. For Hong Kong users, could this new large luxury sedan become a new choice for northbound travel or mainland commuting?

Design Language: The Romantic Expression of Moonlit White and Starburst Pink

The refreshed S9 and S9T retain the family design language but offer exciting new colors. The S9's Moonlit White draws inspiration from the warm halo of a supermoon, creating a soft, elegant texture. The S9T's Starburst Pink is inspired by starlight and spring roses, infusing romantic energy into the design. Both models offer a Black Obsidian package for further personalization.

Exterior details include new 20-inch wheels for the S9 and 20-inch five-spoke Star Ring wheels for the S9T, with a body-colored pink option. The sleek, flowing lines achieve a low drag coefficient of 0.23Cd.

Intelligent Driving: 896-Line LiDAR + Qiankun ADS 4

Both refreshed models come standard with the next-generation 896-line dual-optical path image-grade LiDAR, the highest-spec mass-produced automotive LiDAR globally. Its pioneering dual-optical path architecture enables wide-angle and telephoto coordination for ultra-HD, ultra-precise, long-range "high-definition picture-in-picture" perception. Paired with Huawei Qiankun ADS 4, it supports high-level assisted driving functions like map-free urban NCA, highway NOA, and all-scenario smart parking.

For Hong Kong users, while local regulations currently restrict full functionality, hardware pre-installation offers future-proofing. The LiDAR's ability to detect small targets (as low as 14cm) provides a significant safety margin on Hong Kong's narrow streets.

Powertrain and Range: Dual Strategy with 801km BEV and 354km EREV

The S9/S9T offer both BEV and EREV powertrains, catering to diverse needs.

The BEV version uses a 100kWh Whale battery. The single-motor version delivers 801km range, while the dual-motor AWD version offers 701km, with energy consumption as low as 13.5kWh/100km. A 15-minute charge replenishes from 30% to 80%. An 801km range covers a round trip from Hong Kong to Changsha, easily handling a month's commuting and weekend trips.

The EREV version features Huawei's Snowy Owl intelligent range-extender system, offering a maximum CLTC pure electric range of 354km and a combined range of 1,305km. Fuel consumption is 6.15L/100km. A 354km pure electric range means a Hong Kong driver with a 30km daily commute could charge just once a week. Even without home charging, a quick weekend top-up suffices. The range extender seamlessly takes over for longer journeys, eliminating range anxiety.

Interior: The Youthful Expression of Nebula Red

The refreshed S9T features a Nebula Red interior, emphasizing a youthful, stylish vibe. The wraparound cockpit includes a 15.6-inch central screen and a 12.3-inch instrument display. Nappa leather seats offer ventilation, heating, and massage functions for front occupants, with rear seats also featuring electric adjustment and heating. A 21-speaker sound system, panoramic sunroof, and HUD are standard.

Pricing Strategy: A Luxury Breakthrough from RMB 319,800

The refreshed S9/S9T are priced between RMB 319,800 and 409,800. This is highly competitive. The Nio ET7 starts at RMB 428,000; the Zeekr 001 starts at RMB 269,000 but offers a different luxury proposition. The S9 offers standard 896-line LiDAR, over 800km range, and the HarmonyOS cockpit, presenting compelling value.

For Hong Kong, the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class start around HKD 700,000-800,000 but lag significantly in intelligent features. An RHD S9, priced competitively, could substantially disrupt the local luxury car market.

Hong Kong Perspective: Three Hurdles for RHD Introduction

RHD Development Cost: Converting a left-hand-drive platform for Hong Kong's smaller RHD market involves significant expense, a key commercial consideration.

Brand Recognition: Stelato's brand recognition in Hong Kong lags behind BMW/Mercedes. However, Huawei's strong brand presence could positively influence perception if successfully transferred.

Charging Compatibility: The S9's 800V ultra-fast charging requires compatible high-power chargers. Currently, Hong Kong's high-power GB/T chargers (>100kW) are limited (only 10). While government targets aim for 4,000 fast chargers by 2030, infrastructure is still developing.

Personal Opinion: Another "Disruptive" Move from Huawei's Ecosystem

The refreshed Stelato S9/S9T showcase Huawei's technological prowess: 896-line LiDAR, HarmonyOS, Qiankun ADS 4, 800V platform – integrated into a vehicle starting at RMB 319,800. This potent package redefines value in the luxury EV segment.

For Hong Kong users, the S9 represents a direction: Huawei's ecosystem expanding into cars, reshaping the luxury market. The traditional "halo" of established luxury brands is fading, replaced by a new definition of "tech luxury." Its ultimate success in Hong Kong hinges on RHD availability and infrastructure development. Regardless, it's a compelling new option in the evolving automotive landscape.

The launch of the refreshed S9/S9T is a date worth watching for Hong Kong buyers. When "disruptive" products arrive, market rules can change. Hong Kong users may soon see these new faces of "tech luxury" on their streets.
