In recent days, the brake pedal breakage incident involving the Zunjie V800 caused a major stir. In the article "Four Departments Join Forces to Say No to 'Rushed Cars'!", the People's Daily clearly stated: "The brake pedal of a car should absolutely not 'break' during driving!" Unexpectedly, before this brake breakage scandal at Zunjie had passed, the manufacturer of Luxeed among the 'Five Jie' brands, Chery Automotive, was exposed again for "axle breakage".

According to The Observer Network, a rear axle detachment accident involving a 2023 model OMODA 5 occurred in Malaysia recently. While driving, the rear axle detached from the vehicle body along with two wheels. Fortunately, no casualties were caused. On October 11, Chery Automotive released a statement stating that this batch of vehicles might have insufficient weld strength at local welding positions of the rear axle trailing arm, posing a risk of weld seam tearing in extreme cases. Therefore, Chery will recall 8,878 OMODA 5 vehicles in Malaysia.

This is not the first time the OMODA 5 model has had product issues in Malaysia. According to Lianhe Zaobao, one month after Chery launched the OMODA 5 SUV in Malaysia in March 2024, a car owner complained that the new car's axle broke during driving. The Traffic Authority then ordered the recall of this car, but did not implement any stop order. Chery subsequently recalled 600 OMODA 5 SUVs. Unexpectedly, after two years passed, the same model "failed" again on the same issue.

According to Malaysian automotive media Paultan, the OMODA 5 was actually discontinued in Malaysia and was replaced by the brand-new CHERY O5 model in September 2025. The CHERY O5 adopts a multi-link independent rear suspension, while the previous OMODA 5 adopts a torsion beam rear suspension, so the new model is not within the affected range.

According to industry information, Chery is one of the Chinese automakers most dependent on exports currently: exports reached 1.344 million units in the full year of 2025, ranking first in Chinese brand passenger car exports for 23 consecutive years; cumulative exports in the first three quarters of 2026 reached 1.55 million units, a year-on-year growth of 65.6%, already exceeding the total for the previous year, accounting for about 70% of total sales. In September this year, Chery exported 207,800 units, a year-on-year growth of 51%, with an export share as high as 71.1%, breaking the record for single-month exports by a Chinese automaker. What impact the axle breakage incident in Malaysia will have on Chery and even Luxeed is currently unknown.
