Why does a car that runs around the world sell for just over 90,000 yuan?

August 26, Chery Fengyun T7 was launched. Three car models, all with 600 km range, guide price 97,900 to 118,900 yuan, trade-in price starts from 94,900 yuan. Car delivery simultaneously at the launch event, there were also foreign users living in China among the first batch of owners.

At this price point in today's pure electric SUV market, it is not expensive. But what's interesting is not the price, but what this car did before its launch — it ran around the globe first, then returned to sell domestically.

"Global cars cannot be rushed"

In the current car manufacturing circle, a term called "involution" is popular. Involve in price, configuration, and launch speed, as if they want to start a project today and deliver tomorrow. Some models' cycle from exposure to launch is getting shorter; some even take less than two years from project initiation to launch.

Fengyun T7 takes a different path. 2 years planning, 3 years R&D, a full 4 years. 81 durability test vehicles underwent simultaneous road testing, total cumulative vehicle test mileage exceeded 6 million kilometers, of which durability specific tests covered 1.45 million kilometers. Testing footprints covered over 100 extreme road conditions including EU, Australia & New Zealand, Middle East, South Africa, Russia, Mexico, Brazil, etc., temperature range from -40 degrees to +55 degrees, covering 95% of global road types.

Chery calls this logic "Native Global Car". Unlike the industry common practice of "sell domestically first, then modify for export", Fengyun T7 did forward development targeting car usage needs in 210 countries and regions from the start of project initiation. Two years in advance, researching global regulations, designed according to the 2026 E-NCAP five-star standard. Global "1+7+N" R&D system polishing, 10 major design centers, over 100 designers working collaboratively, over 5,000 global users participated in deep research co-creation.

At the launch event, Chery Executive Vice President Zhang Guozhong said, "Global cars cannot be rushed at all." This sounds like self-mockery, but actually states a fact: Cars truly meant to sell to the global market cannot save a single day of time.

Verification is not run out in a lab

The four words "Global Verification" are said by many brands. But there is a big difference between verification and verification.

Fengyun T7's verification is run out on real roads. Brazil's speed bumps, Mexico's cobblestone roads, Southeast Asia rainy season deep water fording, Nordic extreme cold low temperature startup, Middle East high temperature sun exposure equipment overheat protection — every item is the result of actual cars run out in actual environments. Even before formally facing domestic consumers, test vehicles had already been encountered by local passersby in multiple continents.

This verification method corresponds to a series of specific scenario adaptations: Southeast Asia rainy season 500mm off-road level fording capability, Middle East high temperature sun exposure playback equipment 40°C overheat protection, Indonesia high humidity environment filter odor residual control, Siberia snow/rain low temperature wiper life reinforcement, Nordic extreme dark night car interior lighting and charging backlight optimization, Brazil gravel road battery connector multiple protection, Mexico cobblestone road durability noise special verification. Every item is a targeted solution for real problems in specific markets.

Same-platform model Lepas L6 has started pre-sale in South Africa first, and launched in Thailand. According to the plan, landing in China and Indonesia in August, entering EU in September, launching in UK, Malaysia, Australia, etc. from October onwards. Accept global market testing first, then launch domestically — this rhythm is not common among independent brands.

"Range Parity" and "Full Safety Spec"

Fengyun T7 made an uncommon decision on the product: Three configuration versions, all standard 65.05kWh Rhino Battery, CLTC range unified at 600 km. Actual test range can reach over 667 km. 30% to 80% fast charging about 20 minutes, battery cycle life over 2,500 times, design service life 15 years.

In other words, buying the base version and the top version, the range is the same. The industry common practice of "cutting range in entry-level version" does not hold for this car. Chery Executive Vice President Li Xueyong said at the launch event, the Three-Electric system "no segmentation across the series".

Safety configurations also have no version gradient. 80% high-strength steel, 18.84% hot-formed steel, 9 cross and 5 longitudinal cage body, same-level exclusive shotgun structure, all series standard 9 airbags. Battery 6D lock armor 31-layer protection, IP68 waterproof ability is 96 times the national standard, side anti-crush is 2 times the national standard. Chassis tuned by a team led by former Maserati chassis tuning experts.

Chery also provided two safety net rights for this car: Power battery thermal runaway due to its own reasons, compensation for same model new car; Accident caused by ADAS reasons, maximum compensation 5 million yuan. A 100,000 yuan class car dares to make this commitment, to some extent it is using real money to back the product.

Pre-sale 9 days 16,000 units, market is voting

Fengyun T7 opened pre-sale on August 12, 72 hours big order lock-in 10,937 units, 9 days pre-sale orders broke 16,787 units. During Chengdu Auto Show, this car was one of the most focused models at Chery's booth.

Pre-sale data cannot be entirely equivalent to final sales volume, but able to get this order volume in the 100,000 yuan pure electric SUV track which is the most crowded, shows the market accepts the concept of "Global Quality". Chery ranks first in Chinese brand passenger car exports for 23 consecutive years, global cumulative users broke 20 million, products sold to over 130 overseas markets — these accumulated brand trust was realized on Fengyun T7.

Slow a bit, but solid a bit

Back to the initial question: A car that runs around the world, why only sell for over 90,000 yuan?

The answer may be simple — Chery wants to tell the market with this car, global quality doesn't necessarily have to sell for 200,000 yuan. Products polished with 3 years R&D, 6 million km verification, global standards, 100,000 yuan class can also achieve it.

That sentence at the launch event is worth listening to again: "Cars are not FMCG, it concerns the safety of millions of families, it withstands the test of global different road conditions, climate, habits. Some time, really dare not save."

In this era where everyone compares who runs faster, someone willing to slow down to build the car solid, is not a bad thing for consumers.
