Although the Song PLUS has been discontinued in China, in the Brazilian market, it will continue to expand sales in another form. BYD recently released a new pickup model in the Brazilian market, the new car is named Mako, expected price roughly starting from 260,000. Initially, it will be introduced via domestic complete vehicle export methods. We can simply understand Mako as the pickup version of the Song PLUS.

Mako is built specifically for the Latin American market. BYD will also launch 5 pickup models to face different market levels. To briefly introduce, in overseas markets, pickups are also one of the passenger vehicles. Unlike in China, there are restrictions on road rights and usage permissions. Moreover, this type of car is a major segment. From compact, mid-size, mid-to-large, and full-size, different corresponding models exist respectively.

Especially in markets like Canada, Thailand, and Brazil, this type of multi-functional pickup truck that can carry passengers and cargo, and even has off-road capability, holds a very strong market share. BYD launching different models for different market needs is actually quite forward-looking.

The front of Mako basically continues the design of the Song PLUS. The difference is mainly after the C-pillar. But it is not a traditional pickup structure. Mako's cargo bed and rear compartment use an integrated design. The changes in interior are not particularly large, but the rear seat legroom performance is relatively average.

The powertrain is the 5th Generation DM Plug-in Hybrid System, composed of a 1.5L naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine and motor. Paired with a 12.9kWh power battery pack, system total power is 166kW. Specific details have been adjusted. The power system supports ethanol fuel, better fitting the preferences of the Brazilian market. To improve load capacity, the suspension structure was strengthened. Four-wheel drive models will follow later.
