Fengyun T7: A Car That Goes "The Opposite Way"

On August 12, Fengyun T7 opened pre-sales, ranging from 109,900 to 129,900 CNY, 3 trim levels. The theme of the launch event was quite interesting: "Slow work builds good cars, sorry for the wait."

In this industry where new cars are pushed out on a monthly rhythm, a car manufacturer publicly calling itself "slow" and apologizing to users saying "long time no see", this posture itself is quite abnormal. But after seeing the development path of this car, you will find these two words are well-founded. Fengyun T7, inside and out, everything goes "the opposite way".

The conventional path for Chinese automakers is to first establish themselves in the domestic market before figuring out how to go global. Fengyun T7 takes the opposite direction: born global, tempered and returned.

The car is developed according to global standards, relying on Chery's 23 years of global technical accumulation. Tests are conducted overseas. The rainy season in Southeast Asia, the intense sun exposure in the Middle East, the high humidity environment in Indonesia, all are its testing grounds. 2 years planning, 3 years R&D, 81 dedicated durability cars tested simultaneously, cumulative vehicle test mileage exceeds 6 million km, with durability specific tests running 1.45 million km alone. Design led by Chery's 10 major global design centers, over 5,000 domestic and overseas users co-created throughout the process, the homologous model Lepas L6 was shown off at the Milan Design Week first.

After enduring all the hardships overseas, return to China and sell to Chinese families. The benefit of this path is very practical: what Chinese users buy is a car verified by various extreme climates and road conditions globally.

Range false labeling is an open secret in the new energy vehicle industry, seeing 700 claimed but 500 driven often. Fengyun T7's approach is another reverse: full series standard 65.05 kWh large capacity Rhino Battery, claimed CLTC range 600 km, actual test 667 km or more. Claimed is less than driven, this is rare behavior in the industry.

Charging is also fast, 30% to 80% takes only 20 minutes. Dual-source wide heat pump air conditioning plus high-voltage PTC, stable operation in ultra-wide temperature range from -30 to 55 degrees, Northern users don't need to worry about range and heating in winter anymore.

Safety configurations are piled high on this car, with clear direction. Designed against 2026 version E-NCAP five-star safety standards, functional safety reaches ASILD highest level. 80% high strength steel plus 18.84% hot-formed steel nine-cross five-long cage body, 9 airbags, including 48L dual-chamber remote airbags and rear side airbags. Rhino Battery has 6D protection, IP68 waterproof standard is 96 times national standard, summer rainstorm waterlogging, road surface water, you have peace of mind.

But more noteworthy than specs are two bottom-line commitments: if battery itself causes overall vehicle thermal runaway damage, compensate a same model new car; if assisted driving causes accidents, compensation up to 5 million within one year of purchase. Many brands talk about safety, few are willing to write liability responsibilities in black and white. Plus whole vehicle lifetime warranty (including three-electric systems) and 666 CNY lifetime basic maintenance package, worries of car ownership are basically cleared away.

For regular subjects like intelligence and comfort, Fengyun T7 also didn't have weak subjects. Cabin-drive integrated 8775 chip, 4nm process 72 TOPS computing power, 15.6-inch 2.5K big screen, mainstream phone projection protocols fully covered. Falcon 500 assisted driving system, 22 sensors, 300+ scenarios of automatic parking, dead-end roads, floor-spanning can all park. 84% usable space rate, rear row 911mm legroom, rear seats folded can make out 1955mm pure flat large bed. Chassis polished by team led by former Maserati chassis tuning expert, 50.8 to 49.2 golden axle load ratio.

Starting from 109,900, full series 600km range, global standard verification, battery and smart driving dual bottom-line. The things Fengyun T7 did, looking at them one by one are not new: slow R&D, real testing, real bottom-line, are all old-school car making fundamentals. But in the current era where fast-track car making and marketing rhetoric run rampant, old-school has become a scarce product.
